- Costa Rica played against New Zealand in the final of the World Cup play-offs
- In the end, the Costa Ricans triumphed in the Doha Stadium
- Joel Campbell scored the only goal of the match
Campbell is Costa Rica’s hero
During the June break, the two other national teams that will take part in the upcoming World Cup in Qatar were announced. The Welsh were better than the Ukrainians and Australia eliminated Peru after a penalty shootout.
We can finally announce the set. Costa Rica beat New Zealand and will play at the World Cup.
The hero of the North American team was Joel Campbell. He is a player who fans may remember from the World Cup in Brazil, where he charmed them. The 29-year-old used a pass from 17-year-old Jewison Bennette and gave the rivals’ goalkeeper no chance. Chris Wood could have equalised before the break, but the referee ruled it offside.
The Costa Ricans have a lot to be happy about. Their start in the qualifiers was terrible, but they made up for it later. Suffice to say that only a series of four wins in a row ensured them fourth place in the group. They were ahead of Panama but gave way to Canada, Mexico and the United States.
This will be the sixth World Cup for this national team.
